Sunday, August 31 a 11-12 year old boy was mauled by two dogs on Maple Lane. 911 was called and police and ambulances arrived within 15 minutes. Animal Control was dispatched and the dogs were removed from Blue Ridge Acres. The youth was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and received multiple stitches. This situation was observed to escalate over several weeks. Contributing factors were that the dogs were not controlled by their owners and may have been trained to be aggressive, based on a statement by one of the owners. Animal Control had previously been contacted by the parents of the victim and a visit had been scheduled for today (Monday, September 1). This incident is particularly disturbing because of the number of young children in the immediate neighborhood. Followup precautions will be posted to this web site.

First, my family and I would like to thank Chip and Chris for all the help they have given to my son and my family through this ordeal with the recent dog attack. Chris was quick to help get the dogs off my son and Chip for driving my son home after the dog attacks. It’s great to have caring neighbors like you who aren’t afraid to help. As for my son he is recovering from the bites, it will be a long recovery period for him for the healing of the bites and the mental stress this has caused. I as a parent hope and pray your children are never bitten like my son was. He’s in severe pain from the bites and the cleaning of each wound not to mention the sleepless nights and bad dreams of the grueling attack. I spoke with the animal warden yesterday and he told me that he has only ever seen one other person bitten worse than my son. This could have all been prevented if the owners kept their animals either on a leash or a fenced in yard. I would like to see everyone here in Blue Ridge Acres to watch out for any and all unleashed dogs roaming the area. If you care about your pets and your children you will pick up the phone and call animal control @ 728-3289 and report the dogs that are running at large and uncontrolled, this may save another child from the pain that my son is in. I will say this, if I see any dog, either chasing a car, four-wheeler, a child or just walking alone it will be reported to animal control. I do not want to see this ever happen again to anyone. Please keep your eyes open and let us put a stop to the growing dog problems we have.
